About this game
A New Opponent for Boyfriend
FNF Trollge Tricky Rhythm Mod is a community-made modification of Friday Night Funkin. The base game's structure remains: Boyfriend stands on one side of the screen, an opponent on the other, and the two trade musical phrases. What changes here is the rival. Trollge Tricky replaces the standard opponent, bringing a distinct visual presence and a set of songs built around that character. The mod is open-source, which means the project files are available for others to study, modify, or build upon.
Reading the Arrows and Hitting the Beat
During a song, arrow symbols scroll upward above Boyfriend and pass through a target area. Each arrow corresponds to one of the four directional keys on your keyboard. You press the matching key as the arrow reaches the target, aiming to land the input on the beat rather than slightly before or after it. Accurate hits fill your progress bar. Consecutive misses drain it, and losing the bar ends the attempt. The challenge is not memorizing a pattern once but reproducing it under the pressure of a moving timeline.
Story Mode and Free Play
The main menu splits into two routes. Story mode presents a sequence of songs, giving the mod a sense of progression rather than a disconnected set of tracks. Free play mode lets you pick any song you have unlocked and replay it in isolation. That second option matters for practice: if a particular section keeps breaking your combo, free play lets you repeat that track without sitting through the earlier parts of a story run. The mode structure is simple, but it covers both first-time play and targeted improvement.
What Makes It Worth Trying
This mod is aimed at people who already know how Friday Night Funkin works and want a different opponent and new music to learn. The added challenge comes from the unfamiliar song patterns tied to Trollge Tricky rather than from a change to the core input system. Because the project is open-source, players who want to adjust charts, art, or audio have a legitimate path to do so. Anyone completely new to rhythm games should expect a steep start, since the mod assumes familiarity with arrow-based note reading.

Player Reviews
This mod does not reinvent Friday Night Funkin's formula; it replaces the opponent and supplies new music to learn. That is enough for players who have exhausted the base game and want a different set of patterns to master. The open-source nature lowers the barrier for community edits, which extends the mod's lifespan. The main limitation is accessibility: newcomers to rhythm games will find the timing demands unforgiving without prior arrow-key experience.
